Important Passage

Each year the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reviews an average of 1,700 new compounds that industry is seeking to introduce. Yet the 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act requires that they be tested for any ill effects before approval only if evidence of potential harm exists—which is seldom the case for new chemicals. The agency approves about 90 percent of the new compounds without restrictions. Only a quarter of the 82,000 chemicals in use in the U.S. have ever been tested for toxicity.

I felt like this was very important because most of all it shocked me that there is that many new compounds being tested every year. Another important thing about this is that only a quarter of the chemicals have ever even been tested and i think that all of them should be tested and if they are toxic than they shouldn't be improved.I have learned that the EPA is not really doing there job right and that we should make laws that say they have to test all of the chemicals for toxicity.

I found that learning about all of the chemiclas that are in your body is very interesting and has definitely made me more aware and cautious about the things around me that are polluting us and the Earth.
